The Messer Family Line & Legacy of the House of Messer Trust

The Messer family story begins with George Messer (1822–Deceased) and Barbara Kuhn (1827–Deceased), steadfast German settlers whose faith and perseverance laid the foundation of a lineage that would span nearly two centuries. Their descendants carried forward a tradition of craftsmanship, conviction, and Christian devotion that defined their name across generations.

Their son Joseph John Messer (1862–1916) married Maria Theresia Steets (1867–1910), uniting two devout Pennsylvania-German families. Their child, Joseph George Messer Jr. (1889–1961), and Elizabeth Mona Haibig (1892–Deceased) strengthened the family through both faith and service, connecting the Messer name to the Haibig and Reuter lines from Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Anchoring the family in New Jersey with a renewed spirit of faith, family, and creative purpose.

The Messer family tree weaves together a rich European tapestry - rooted in the United States and stretching across Ireland, Germany, Baden, Scotland, and the United Kingdom, with ancestral ties reaching back to British Colonial America. Each region adds its own hue to the family’s story: the industrious German craftsmen of Baden, the steadfast Scots, the spirited Irish, and the early settlers who shaped America’s founding era. While the Canneto ancestral blend rooted in Canneto sull’Oglio, a Lombard village once ruled by the illustrious Gonzaga family in the 1500s, and mirrored by Canneto of Tuscany, whose origins reach back to the year 1000. More than a name, Canneto is a toponym of legacy - born of place, preserved by lineage, and forever tied to the noble soil of Italy’s storied heartlands.
