Another Gospel: How Remarriage in the Modern Church Violates the Words of Christ

In the modern age of tolerance and emotional validation, many Christian churches have strayed from the words of Christ to accommodate the culture. One of the most tragic signs of this departure is the normalization of remarriage after divorce — an act that Jesus Christ Himself clearly condemned in the Gospels. Churches that bless and officiate such unions are not teaching the Gospel of Christ but, in Paul’s words, “another gospel,” and in so doing, place themselves under the curse of God.

The Words of Christ: Remarriage Is Adultery

Jesus left no room for ambiguity on this issue. In every gospel account that records His teaching on divorce and remarriage, His words are consistent and absolute:

“And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.” (Mark 10:11–12, KJV)

“Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.” (Luke 16:18, KJV)

These are not suggestions. These are judgments pronounced by the Son of God. Christ did not say remarriage might be adultery or that it depends on the circumstances.

He declared it is adultery — a sin punishable by death under the Law of Moses (Leviticus 20:10), and punishable by excommunication if unrepentant under th New. (Matt 18; 1 Cor 5:9-10; 6:9)

Furthermore, Jesus refuted the religious leaders of His day who sought to justify the permenant death penalty on adulterers but did not advocate divorce based on Moses’ allowance found in Deut 24. He left room for lifelong repentance from sin, in loneliness, for reflection unto reconciliation. He corrected their error by pointing to God’s original design while referencing God heart and authority (Jer 3:1-14) not the authority of Moses:

“Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.” (Matthew 19:8, KJV)

God never intended for marriage to be broken, nor did he ever authorized it to be a permanent state, but a condition of unbelief, blindness, hard-heartedness and unrepentance. He certainly never authorized marriage to be replaced by what he defined as adultery. In God’s eyes, the bond of a “first marriage”remains, even if the couple separates, which has been upheld throughout church history. A legal divorce authorized by man on earth cannot dissolve what God has joined together in heaven and declared as permenant.

Remarriage is not only a new term, a new practice and subtitle twisting of the truth, but a new definition of what has always been defined as adultery. As “with child” became pregnant, as murder became “abortion,” just as sodomy had to first be renamed a more “acceptable condition” like homosexuality before it could be digested. The same snake, new skin.

Paul’s Confirmation: A Woman Is Bound While Her Husband Lives

The apostle Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, confirmed Jesus’ teaching. In Romans 7, he makes a bold statement that connects remarriage with sin:

“For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress.” (Romans 7:2–3, KJV)

The only release from the marriage bond, according to the Scripture, is death. No paper, no courtroom, no pastor’s approval can break what God has bound. Paul reiterates this in 1 Corinthians:

“The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 7:39, KJV)

Thus, any remarriage while a spouse still lives is not blessed — it is condemned. It is a public endorsement of adultery masquerading as Christian love.

Another Gospel: Doctrines of Devils

How, then, do so many churches justify officiating remarriages for divorced persons? How can they openly bless what Christ has called sin?

Paul gives the answer:

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” (1 Timothy 4:1, KJV)

Remarriage after divorce is one such doctrine — it tells people that sin is permissible, that Christ’s words are outdated, and that grace can be used as a license for disobedience. But this is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8, KJV)

These are terrifying words. The modern church is preaching a counterfeit gospel — one that does not call sinners to repentance, but blesses their rebellion. Paul’s warning could not be clearer: Let him be accursed.

A Call to Repentance

God is not mocked. A church that embraces remarriage while a spouse still lives is a church in rebellion. Jesus said:

“Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3, KJV)

There is mercy available, but only through repentance — not by celebrating adultery with flowers and wedding rings. The church must return to the Gospel of Christ and reject the doctrines of devils.

Let every shepherd beware: if you bless what God has cursed, you share in the judgment. For it is written:

“Be ye not partakers of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.” (1 Timothy 5:22, KJV)

And let every believer who seeks to follow Christ reject the counterfeit gospel of remarriage and return to the narrow way that leads to life.

“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:6, KJV)
