The Tearing of the Echad: Analyzing the Violent Parallels of Abortion and Divorce

Updated: Jan 21

The tearing of the "echad" oneness is depicted in Malachi 2 as producing a "Bloody Garment".

Empowerment, Even Unto the Power of Life and Death

Once a people decide that “empowerment” includes the right to kill its own children, it has crossed a line from which there is no easy return. In the name of empowering women, our culture has handed the Self a terrible authority: the power of life and death over the most vulnerable, and even many in the church have quietly accepted this as normal.

a quote about true empowerment

Yet the God who made the womb and the covenant of marriage, never granted anyone the right to tear apart what He has made one—whether the child knit together in secret or the one‑flesh union of husband and wife. [1][2][3]

This article will argue that abortion and divorce are not isolated “issues,” but twin expressions of the same rebellion: a misuse of power that shreds God’s design for life and covenant while calling it freedom. It will show how modern “empowerment” has been twisted into license to shed innocent blood, how the tearing of the Echad one‑flesh union mirrors the violence done in the womb, and how satanic and secular movements have turned both into anti‑sacraments that ritualize self over sacrifice. Finally, it will call the church to abandon partial repentance, recover a clean conscience on life and marriage, and point you to longer studies that examine the data, the theology, and the legal history behind this claim in greater depth.[2][4][5][1]

We Are Created Unto Good Works

The state and modern culture preach that women’s liberation includes unrestricted control over sex, fertility, and marriage outcomes. True empowerment is given by God, who has granted us this power unto good. It is a power unto good works, not to kill the innocent and tear asunder one-flesh unions.

Ephesians 2:

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Additionally, the idea of “my body, my choice” is eerily similar to that language of that anti-sacramental abortions, it also directly against God’s word.

1 Corinthians 6

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Secular Humanism: The Religion of the State

The Secular Humanistic state’s religious view has clearly catechized even churchgoing women to see abortion as a legitimate option. Instead of women presenting their bodies to the Lord as the Temple of the Holy Ghost and all the blessings that come along with this, many Evangelical women have chosen the state’s

empowerment over their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And the key thing here is the church leaders have acquiesced to this empowerment which some call the Jezebel Spirit. It is apparent that empowerment has shifted from “freedom to do good” to “freedom to decide who lives and who dies,” which is a power that belongs to God alone. It is this aura of fierce audacity that pervades the attitudes of modern women to the point we must ask ourselves, if women have the audacity to seize this power given by the state, despite God, then we must investigate and ask the question, what about other holy covenants and commands which God has made sacred?

Jerome 340 A.D. , Describes Divorce as a Violent Bloody Tearing of the Echad One-Flesh Union

In Jerome’s view, the "garment" (Hebrew: beged) represents a person’s outward identity or soul as it is presented to the world.

Malachi 2:

15And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. 16For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

A Blood-Stained Garment: Jerome interpreted (Hebrew: chamus) (violence/iniquity) as something that "covers" the man like a dirty cloak. He argued that a man who deals treacherously with his wife has "bloodstained clothes" in God's eyes—his sin is public, visible, and clings to him. Of course likewise, now that bloody Jezebel is now empowered in our modern age, she is getting her chance to bloody yet another innocent victim, that is the one-flesh union of man and wife. Commentators often emphasize that there is no way to "tear in two" what God has made one without causing trauma. Just like an abortion, which goes into what is supposed to be the safest place on earth, and rips a human body limb from limb, the one-flesh

union is ripped apart violently to the point that anyone involved in this break-up has blood on their hands. The aborted fetus is subjected to suction device which tears the baby limb from limb as forceps are employed to grab at the fetal tissue that is left. It this isn’t enough the uterus is than scraped for any of the pieces of the fetus torn asunder. Similarly, the tearing apart of the one-flesh union is described by commentators as an amputation, tearing what God has brought together in a miraculous mystery, just like the fetus was knot together in the womb. It is no wonder why everyone involved with a divorce describes it as the worst event that ever happened in their lives. Therefore we see now, that abortion is the tearing apart of the unborn child and divorce is the tearing apart of the one-flesh Echad. Both are quite violent, and both destroy something sacred, designed and brought together by a loving Father God. The term "sacrament" is used primarily as a legal and theological category by certain groups to frame abortion as a protected religious activity.

The Satanic Temple (TST): TST has formally established a "Satanic Abortion Ritual". This is defined as a "rite of destruction" intended to sanctify a member's bodily autonomy and protect them from feelings of guilt or shame. [6]

  • Ritual Elements: It involves reciting specific Satanic tenets and personal affirmations, such as the invocation: "By my body, my blood, by my will, it is done".

  • Legal Purpose: TST uses the classification of abortion as a ritual to argue for exemptions from state abortion restrictions (like waiting periods or mandatory ultrasounds) under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).

  • Theological Critique: Some Christian theologians and critics describe abortion as a "demonic parody" or "anti-sacrament". Satan is often referred to as the Ape of God. They argue he mimics the language of the Eucharist ("This is my body") but replaces self-sacrifice for another with the sacrifice of another for the self.

Ironically, Satanists Seemingly, Have a Better Handle on the Significance of the Echad

Interestingly, Satanists have some practices regarding the severing of the Echad oneness of the marriage covenant as well. Though not a standard sacrament, some Satanic and occult practitioners utilize "Severance Rituals" or "Unbinding Rites” in the context of divorces. These are designed to ritually dissolve the spiritual and psychological ties formed during a marriage or "one-flesh" union, often emphasizing the re-assertion of the individual's "sovereign will" over the collective union. Some secular humanists advocate for Divorce Rituals or "de-wedding" ceremonies.

the uncoupling ritual
"Don't try this at home" Divine uncoupling a severance rituals in order to dissolve the spiritual oneness of the couple.

These rites are intended to provide a narrative end to the marriage, functionally "tearing" the communal identity to allow for the restoration of two separate individuals. These ceremonies often focus on "liberation" and the dissolution of shared vows. They revel in the tearing of the Echad, calling it a “spiritual amputation.” This speaks volumes that Satanists seem to understand the spiritual significance of shedding innocent blood and severing marriage oneness, even more than most Evangelical churches. When the discernment of the demonic eclipses the spiritual discernment in the church, it is obvious that there is a problem here, that the Western Evangelical church may not have ever seen before. [7]

The Secret Sin in the Professed Bible-Believing Evangelical Church

Evangelical churches are harboring a secret within the pews, within the small group bible studies, throughout the church picnics, in the baptismal, on short-term mission trips and even in the pulpit. Innocent blood cries out to God the Father from one of the most unexpected places in the world;

1 in 4 women who abort are evangelical

from a so-called bible-believing church.  A 2025 study found that 73% of churchgoers hold inconsistent views on abortion, often fluctuating between pro-life and pro-choice positions depending on specific circumstances. Another study showed that abortion is not being talked about enough in churches today, and somehow the church is getting an inconsistent message on abortion truth. A historical survey found that while only 21% of evangelicals heard abortion talked about in a given year, much higher percentages heard about poverty (66%) and human trafficking (50%). These numbers are resulting in abortions in within the church body. In a recent study 23% of the women who had abortions, who self-identified as Christian, identified themselves as Evangelical Christian. That is nearly 1 in 4 Christians, who get abortions, said they were Evangelical. On the whole there was no difference between the percentage of Christians who destroy their unborn child than the percentage of people who report to be Christian in this nation. This shows that Christians mirror the world according to the rate of shedding innocent blood.

Don't Expect Revival in the Church; Not Until there is Repentance

So we see that once the unspeakable act of shedding innocent blood in abortion is tolerated, then at this point, tearing apart a marriage becomes much easier to commit. The church moves into a very dark place where there is no sin that is unthinkable. Additionally, the link between the tearing of the holy fruit of the womb and the one-flesh union shows connection to these two sacraments, and gives us pause to take a hard look at what we are doing in our church assemblies. There is a lot of talk about a revival coming, but we need to look at what is standing in the way of this revival. Repentance always precedes revival, so we need to make straight the way of the Lord, repent and then we can stay out of the way and allow the Holy Ghost to move in the church. In short, pastors have to get back to speaking truth from the bible and holding churchgoers accountable to it. This requires a steadfast commitment to the truth of the bible and the courage to stand firm against those empowered to oppose him. The pastor needs to boldly preach about the uncomfortable topics such as fornication, which often leads to abortion, and stand firmly on the word when they are offered disingenuous arguments about false abuse in marriage and strawman arguments about rape or incest in abortion. Also the putting asunder what God has brought together, without a genuine effort to reconcile. We can do better and we are required by God to do better than what we are doing. True grace is not there to simply cover up whatever sin we refuse to repent from, grace gives us the strength to overcome the sin, and live in obedience to our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
