Production Update: The Fifth Chair | Remember Randy Re-Release
The Chris Vaughn Company has made the collective decision to move the planned November 5 re-release of The Fifth Chair to a later date.
And we believe that’s a good thing.
What began as a straightforward re-release has gradually developed into something more meaningful. As conversations surrounding the film continued, it became clear to the team that simply putting The Fifth Chair back into circulation wasn’t enough. There was an opportunity to revisit the film in a way that better serves the conversation it was originally created to provoke.
Since its original festival run, The Fifth Chair has reached audiences through its exploration of faith, conscience, accountability, sacrifice, and corruption within organized religion. Those themes have continued to generate discussion well beyond the film itself.
In preparing the Remember Randy re-release, the production team began seeking additional perspective, including input from religious leaders and others familiar with the difficult questions raised by the story. Those conversations have been valuable, but they have also made something clear: there is more work worth doing before we release this version.
Rather than rush to meet a date simply because it was announced, the group agreed that the responsible decision was to give the project the additional time it deserves.
The extra time will allow us to continue developing the material surrounding the film, consider the perspectives being offered, and determine the best way to create a broader conversation around The Fifth Chair while preserving the film and the intentions behind it.
This isn’t a cancellation or a step backward. Quite the opposite.
Remember Randy is becoming a more thoughtful project than originally planned, and everyone involved would rather release something complete and purposeful than something hurried.
A new release date will be announced once that additional work and consultation are complete.
Sometimes revisiting a film means discovering that the conversation around it still has another chapter.
We think this one does.
